Just Four Little Words

Four little words that can strike fear in the hearts of men: “I think I’m pregnant.” If your partner recently said those words, we understand the shock, stress, and fear you may feel. We’re here for you, too.

Becoming a father most likely wasn’t on your radar, but here you are. We’ve got some advice to get you and your partner started. Don’t panic. Help is available.

Steps You Can Take

  • Your first step is to verify her pregnancy at Hope First. We offer free and confidential pregnancy services, such as pregnancy testing and a limited obstetrical ultrasound. You’ll want to get an ultrasound because it will confirm if the pregnancy is developing.
  • If the pregnancy is confirmed, it’s time to talk with a trusted advocate at Hope First about your situation.
  • Learn about your three options: have an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent or co-parent.
  • Listen carefully to your partner. She takes the brunt of an unexpected pregnancy, but she shouldn’t have to decide how to handle it alone. Don’t say, “Whatever you decide is fine with me.”
  • Offer support. Talk about your fears, but tell your partner you are with her.
  • Work through it together. If you need advice or assistance, talk to us.

A Fatherhood Program: If You Decide to Co-Parent or Parent

There is much to learn about being a dad, whether you were raised with an involved or absent father. At Hope First, we celebrate men who wish to be engaged fathers. Our Fatherhood Program offers advice and education to hopefully make your journey through fatherhood smoother.

We provide individual or group sessions, as men help each other understand the importance of fathers in a child’s life. Our program challenges men to be the best men and fathers they can be.

Contact Hope First if you would like to learn more about the Fatherhood Program or if you wish to speak with someone about your partner’s pregnancy.
