When you first discovered your unexpected pregnancy, did you consider becoming a parent? Or did you think, “There is no way I can have a baby now!”

Parenting is challenging. Kids don’t come with manuals, and every child is different. But successful parenting is possible with support, love, and a lot of determination.

Parenting is also very rewarding. You are the one to guide your child’s future and witness those milestones in their life. Don’t count out parenting until you’ve reviewed the many available resources. People in our community want you to be successful, and they’re willing to help you.

A lack of financial resources is often the #1 reason women do not consider parenting. There’s no doubt about it, life can be expensive, but resources are available.

Answering the following questions will give you a better idea of the support you will need if you choose to parent. We can discuss your concerns and create a personalized parenting plan for you. And take away the questions.

  • Do I have the baby’s father’s support, financially and emotionally?
  • Will my parents or other family members help me?
  • Where will we live?
  • Will parenting impact my career or education?
  • Can I financially support a child on my own?
  • Where can I find affordable healthcare and childcare?

If you’ve not shared the news about your pregnancy with your parents or partner, now’s the time to consider it. Often, a heart-to-heart conversation with those who matter most can lead to the many resources you will need.

At Hope First, our caring staff will also come alongside you to provide the support and resources to help you.

Hope First offers free parenting help. Our Earn While You Learn program provides both education and material assistance. Through our classes, you’ll learn about prenatal care, fetal development, childbirth, breastfeeding, and caring for a newborn.

By taking classes, you earn credits to trade for baby necessities at Hope First. Anyone attending our classes can “purchase” diapers, wipes, formula, baby clothing, toys, and more using their earned credits. You can save up your credits to obtain larger items such as strollers, high chairs, and car seats.

We offer life skills classes to prepare you for employment and help with money management, nutrition, and having healthy relationships. You can also receive one-on-one coaching to provide individual assistance.
